Henderson, NV Compounder Recalls All Products Over Sterility Worries

Posted on April 11, 2013

Another compounder has announced the recall of all products, joining an ever-lengthening list of companies that have had to make similar announcements.  Thankfully, it reportedly didn’t take a slew of adverse incident reports to be issued before this particular recall was issued.

The defective product recall was announced by Green Valley Drugs, a compounding pharmacy based in Henderson, Nevada.  The recall affects every single sterile item that was compounded and repackaged by the company before being shipped across the country.  Among the items impacted are Ascorbic Acid, Lidocaine, Magnesium Sulfate, Sodium Bicarbonate, and more.

The company is concerned that the sterility of these items cannot be guaranteed.  The worries arose during supervision of aseptic techniques used and clean room employees.  If an item is not sterile, any patient receiving the product is potentially in danger of suffering an infection that could turn serious or even fatal.

Green Valley takes pains to note that no instances of sterility failure have been reported.  That includes testing conducted by independent parties.  Nevertheless, healthcare professionals are being asked not to give any of the sterile items to patients.  They should instead be sent back to Green Valley.  In the event that adversity in conjunction with one of the compounded items occurs, doctors should get in touch with MedWatch.
