Processing Error Leads to Recall of Pinto Beans by La Preferida

Posted on March 21, 2013

Improper processing has led to the recall of Whole Pinto Beans 29 oz. (Water & Salt) by La Preferida.  The recall affects all those cans that have a time stamp of 3003 and a Best By date of January 3, 2015.  A recent inspection by the manufacturer highlighted the processing issue in as many as 420 cans.  A lack of adequate processing puts the cans in danger of allowing pathogens and contaminants to make their way into the food and endanger customers.  Although illnesses have yet to be reported, the company is taking the step of recalling 56,808 cans of the pinto beans.  Refunds are being provided to all those persons who bring the items back to the store.
