Inadequate Sealing Leads to Recall of Chicken of the Sea Tuna

Posted on March 8, 2013

Chunk White Albacore Tuna in Water under the Chicken of the Sea brand has been recalled by Tri-Union Seafoods because of an issue wherein the cans might not have been adequately sealed.  The recall pertains to five ounce versions of the tuna with a Best By Date of January 18, 2017 that were available across the country from this past February 4 to 17.  The lack of an adequate seam could lead pathogens to make their way into the tuna, and an individual who consumes the product could then find themselves susceptible to an illness.  Such an illness has yet to be reported.  The tuna should have been removed from grocery store shelves by now, and consumers who find that they own this tuna are being advised to contact the company to learn more.
