Proponents of a texting and driving ban in the state of Oklahoma may have to wait another year for passage. Yesterday, the state’s House Calendar Committee opted not to move forward with the bill, despite remonstrations from those who thought that such a measure could improve safety along Oklahoma roads. The bill’s sponsor, a representative from Smithville, explained that a vote would still be possible, but such a move would require concerned citizens to get in touch with members of the Committee which squashed the bill. One of the people they will have to convince is the House Speaker, an individual who seems nonplussed by the thought of a texting ban. He believes that current laws already address the issue and that enforcement is difficult.
