Exige and Elise Vehicles Recalled by Lotus Over Fire and Crash Threats

Posted on February 27, 2013

Exige and Elise vehicles of the 2007 through 2008 model years have been recalled by Lotus because of an issue that could lead to either a crash or a fire.  451 vehicles in total are thought to be affected by the recall, which was initiated upon discovery that the detachment of the oil cooler line from the fitting is a possibility.  The could lead the tire to be sprayed with oil, a condition which might cause the vehicle to crash.  Or, the oil could filter into the engine compartment and catch fire.  Either condition would obviously be dangerous.  The recall is set to start at the beginning of next week, at which point owners will hear from Lotus.  The affected components will be replaced by dealers at no cost to the consumer.
