Tips Geared Toward Protecting Yourself in a Building Fire

Posted on February 26, 2013

Yesterday, we provided you with a few tips centered around protecting yourself from a fire in the home.  But what happens when a fire breaks out in an office building through no fault of your own?  At those times, you have to be ready to go into action, and a new report explains how to do so.  First, whenever you go into a building, make yourself aware of the emergency exit procedures so that you don’t have to scramble around in a panic if a fire does break out.  Alternate exits should always be considered in case a path is blocked.  If you get trapped, you’ll want to head to an office and shut the door.  Use whatever items are available to cover any door seams so that smoke can’t drift in.  And do not break a window, as this can actually draw the fire toward you.
