Bird Food Recalled by Kaytee Products Over Salmonella Threat

Posted on February 20, 2013

The Chilton, Wisconsin-based Kaytee Products has announced the recall of a series of bird food items because they could suffer from a Salmonella contamination.  The recall pertains to numerous products meant to be given to all sorts of birds, and consumers should consult the full list to determine if items they own are included in the recall.  Neither a human nor a pet has been reported as becoming ill due to the potential Salmonella presence, a hazard apparently stemming from parsley flakes provided to Kaytee by Specialty Commodities.  Humans coming into contact with the products could also face the symptoms of a Salmonella-based illness, and thus care should be taken to handle the items carefully.  Affected products should not be consumed or touched, and Kaytee can be contacted to learn more about recall procedures.
