Texting and Driving Ban Gets Approval of South Dakota Senate Committee

Posted on February 15, 2013

South Dakota is yet another state that might make 2013 the year lawmakers get tough on texting at the wheel.  Today, the Senate Transportation Committee voted to approve a measure that would make it illegal for all drivers to text while driving.  The bill will now go in front of the entire Senate for a vote.  Previous efforts to pass such a ban have failed, but proponents of such a measure believe that with so many cities throughout the state having passed their own laws targeting the dangerous habit in the recent past, the bill can finally ride a wave of public support to passage.  If passed, those cities would have to bring their ordinances into compliance with the state measure.
