Report on Dangers of Falsified Drugs Gains Support of FDA Commissioner

Posted on February 13, 2013

The Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration appears to be pleased with a recent report put together by the Institute of Medicine.  “Countering the Problem of Falsified and Substandard Drugs” attempted to bring to light just how dangerous that issue is, and it also offered recommendations that could be followed by regulators in order to improve drug safety across the world.  The FDA has made a marked effort in recent years to increase its outreach overseas, putting together new standards and policing techniques that can help ensure the safety of those drugs that travel from one country to another and which might make their way to the United States.  The threat of counterfeit drugs should not be underestimated, and it would appear that this report and the efforts of the FDA will help raise awareness about the issue.
