Missouri May Expand the Reach of Its Texting and Driving Ban
The state of Missouri is considering a measure that would expand its current ban on texting and driving. At the moment, Missouri only curtails the practice for those vehicle operators who are younger than 21 years of age. A bill introduced in the House would change that, outlawing the practice of texting and driving for anyone who crawls behind the wheel. However, exceptions would be made for persons who have invested in hands-free texting technology activated by voice commands. If passed, the measure would bring Missouri in line with its neighbor, Illinois, a state which disallows all drivers from texting at the wheel. Drivers spoken to by a local news organization voiced concern that enforcement of the measure will be hard.
