Vibe, Matrix, & Corolla Vehicles Recalled Over Airbag Deployment Risk

Posted on February 4, 2013

Pontiac Vibe, Corolla Matrix, and Corolla vehicles of the 2003 through 2004 model years are being recalled by Toyota.  A total of 887,709 vehicles are being recalled because of the possibility that shorting could occur within the circuits of the Supplemental Restraint System.  The ensuing increase of heat which could occur might lead the circuits to experience damage, which could in turn cause the seat belt pretensioners and the front air bags to deploy when they’re not supposed to.  This sudden hazard could cause the driver and passengers to sustain an injury or be involved in a crash.  To prevent an incident, owners will receive notification and free repairs from General Motors and Toyota.  There is no word yet on when this will take place.
