All recalls are disappointing because they signify a safety issue that could potentially imperil the safety of consumers. But when the recall pertains to an item that could be dangerous when not used properly anyway, consumer should definitely take note. This next recall affects a component of a crossbow, something that consumers should seek to ensure the safety of even when a recall doesn’t affect the item.
The Katy, Texas-based Academy Sports + Outdoors issued the recall, which pertains to Game Winner cocking ropes meant to be used with crossbows. These components consist of two black hooks and t-handles affixed to a 50 inch rope, an item that is used to help the shooter pull back the crossbow string. An estimated 6,300 of these black nylon items are affected by the recall.
It’s the aforementioned hooks that led to the recall, as these components are in danger of breaking. This could lead the rope to recoil and potentially lacerate the individual operating the crossbow. Three injurious incidents have been reported at this time, and one additional situation was also reported.
To prevent further mishaps, consumers are being advised to cease use at once. The items, which were sold across the country by Academy between June and October, should be brought back, at which point a refund will be issued.
