Texting While Driving Ban Introduced in Florida For Fourth Time

Posted on January 29, 2013

Three times a Senator from Venice, Florida has attempted to get a bill passed that would ban texting at the wheel, and three times the measure failed for one reason or another.  The Senator explains that the House has never looked upon such a measure with favor and thus never even brought the ban to a committee, despite the Senate passing the anti-texting bill twice.  But now, she believes that the odds are finally in her favor with the presence of a House sponsor and a Speaker who seems willing to consider the bill.  If the law is finally passed, offenders pulled over by police would have to pay a $30 citation.  And although texting would be illegal, other actions such as checking the GPS would still be permissible.
