Reusable Breathing Circuit Recalled by Fisher & Paykel Over Leak Risk

Posted on January 8, 2013

Reusable Breathing Circuits from Fisher & Paykel Healthcare are being recalled because a certain defect could lead to the patient’s fatality.  Model 900MR068 is affected by the recall, which was initiated upon discovery that the tubes may have been compromised by pinholes.  If a test does not reveal the presence of these pinholes, a gas leak becomes a possibility and the ensuing pressure loss could compromise the necessary ventilation therapy.  Continued use when this condition becomes apparent could be fatal to the patient hooked up to the device.  A letter was sent to customers back in November.  Anyone who still has the item in their possession is being asked to destroy and then get rid of units encompassed by the recall.
