Newport Beach Seeks to Improve Bicycle Safety in Monday Meeting

Posted on January 7, 2013

Today will find the Bike Safety Committee of Newport Beach meeting to discuss the ways that the wellbeing of cyclists can be further ensured in the New Year and beyond.  Two recent fatalities among cyclists were what prompted the establishment of a bike safety improvements fund that would see the city matching every donated dollar from the community with three dollars of its own.  At this particular meeting, participants are set to discuss potentially updating that fund.  They also want to figure out how to address a possible safety issue wherein bike lanes are blocked by parked maintenance vehicles.  The committee hopes to have public input in order to determine where the funds should be allotted.
