Proponents Hope 2013 Will Be The Year a Texting Ban Passes in Florida

Beginning in 2002, lawmakers in the Florida legislature have been attempting to enact some sort of ban on cellphone usage behind the wheel.  However, those efforts have come to nought thus far, in part because of a House Speaker who repeatedly blocked any attempt to get the ban passed.  But that Speaker is no longer in office due to term limits, and thus proponents of a ban are pursuing legislation with a renewed fervor.  The law currently set to be debated would ban texting at the wheel, and if passed, the state of Florida would become the 40th state to pass legislation targeting the dangerous yet prevalent habit.  The debate won’t begin until March.
