Texting and Driving Ban Passed in Watertown, South Dakota

Posted on December 18, 2012

Another South Dakota city has joined the lineup of communities throughout the state that have passed some sort of ban on texting behind the wheel.  Huron and Sioux Falls previously banned this behavior, and now Watertown has joined their ranks.  That city’s ban on texting and driving passed by a 6 to 3 margin at a City Council meeting held last night.  In addition to texting, the measure covers such other dangerous habits as email and internet access.  Anyone caught disobeying the new law could face a citation costing $200 and even spend 30 days in jail.  There’s no indication of whether a violation would be deemed a secondary or primary offense.
