Truck recalls are always particularly disappointing. Although a defect present on any vehicle could possibly pose a significant safety hazard, but large trucks, should they suffer from some sort of defect, could affect many different vehicles on the road given their size. It’s therefore imperative that all owners of recalled trucks take note and react accordingly.
FG84D, FE84D, FE83D, and FE85D trucks of the 2005 through 2007 model years are those affected by a new recall, and each was produced between May of 2004 and May of 2007. Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America announced the recall, which pertains to an estimated 13,644 vehicles in total.
An error that apparently occurred during manufacture might lead to the fuel pipes sustaining a crack, plus there’s a possibility that inadequate tightening was had in the flare nuts of the fuel pipe. Either one of these conditions might lead fuel to leak from the pipe, and should an open flame be in the vicinity at the time, a fire becomes a distinct possibility.
Owners can expect to receive word of the issue from Mitsubishi, at which point they’ll be able to bring the trucks in for an inspection. Free repairs will be conducted as needed should the issue be uncovered. The recall isn’t slated to begin until January 15.
