Baby Jogger Recalls 10,600 City Versa Strollers Over Fall Risk

Posted on December 12, 2012

Products that are meant to be used by children or to carry children must meet rigorous safety standards.  Young kids need to be protected by the hazards that are out there in the world, and when an item doesn’t meet the necessary standards, recalls like this next one must be issued.

The Richmond, Virginia-based Baby Jogger announced the recall, which affects City Versa strollers produced from May 15 through August 20 of this year.  Concerned consumers can verify the manufacturing date by checking the side hinge of these chrome and black strollers.  10,600 strollers in total are being recalled, with all but 2,200 of those having been sold in the United States (the others reside in Canada).

It’s possible that the strollers can collapse while being used due to the potential inability of the frame to lock.  The kid being transported in the unit at that time would thus be subject to a fall hazard.  There have been no reported injuries at this time, but there have been a half dozen reported instances of the defect presenting itself.

The strollers, which were available from buybuyBaby and various online and in-store retail platforms for $450 between July and October, should not be used.  Consumers are instead advised to obtain a free replacement frame from the manufacturer.  Doing so is essential to ensure the safety of the child placed in these strollers.
