Protect Your Family From Danger Posed by Holiday Lights

Posted on December 4, 2012

Hanging strands of lights is an annual tradition for many families around this time of the year, but as a report out of Twin Falls, Idaho shows, there are numerous hazards that go along with this festive activity.  Lights hung on a dry Christmas tree could pose a fire hazard, so make sure the tree is suitably fresh and kept watered throughout the holidays.  Extension cords meant for indoor use should not be placed outdoors and vice versa, otherwise you risk a potentially injurious incident.  And you also want to be careful not to overload any electrical outlets.  Even though it’s possible to string sets of lights together, make sure you don’t do this in excess.  Follow the advice of the box to ensure you’re adhering to safe usage instructions.
