Survey Shows Internet Use at the Wheel is Increasingly Common

Posted on November 28, 2012

As if texting while driving isn’t bad enough, there’s now evidence to suggest that drivers are turning to the internet in increasing numbers while the vehicle is in motion.  State Farm recently conducted a survey of 1,000 drivers, and that survey found nearly 50% of all respondents from 18 to 29 years of age copping to logging onto the web while behind the wheel of a vehicle.  Three years ago, the rate was only 29%.  The prevalence of smartphones is no doubt what has led to this juncture.  The survey also found 43% of respondents in that same age group saying that they have looked at email while driving.  A similar study last year showed that nearly one third of people engage with social media at the wheel.
