Organizations Partner to Hand out Safety Equipment to Ottawa Cyclists

Posted on November 7, 2012

Safer Roads Ottawa, Citizens for Safe Cycling, the Ottawa Police Department, and Right Bike partnered yesterday to promote bicycle safety by handing out the necessary equipment to those cyclists in the area who didn’t have such items.  Officials from the organizations were positioned along a stretch of road to hand out some 200 bells and lights to Ottawa cyclists who were not prepared with such equipment.  The law in Ontario stipulates that a failure to use lights, reflectors, and tape at night can result in a $20 fine, but officers used this instance to educate the public rather than impose fines.  Not having a horn costs an even more severe $85.
