Thousands of trucks have had to be recalled because of a defect that might lead fuel to emanate from the vehicle.
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America announced the recall of the trucks. In particular, FGB72, FEC52, FEC72, and FEC92 trucks of the 2012 and 2013 model years might suffer from the defect which necessitated the recall, adding up to a total of 6,520 potentially compromised vehicles.
The recall stems from the fact that a certain connector was not machined adequately. Because of this, the fuel filter head and the fuel line itself could become disconnected from one another. Should detachment or even loosening take place, fuel can leak out of those components. If some type of ignition source is in the vicinity, a fire might break out. Even certain components of the vehicle that throw off high levels of heat may pose a fire hazard.
Thus, Mitsubishi Fuso plans to get in touch with vehicle owners about the issue. By December 3, the recall will begin, at which point a free inspection will be carried out by dealers, and if the issue is discovered, the affected component will be replaced.
Recalls of commercial trucks are particularly important to adhere to, as the size of these vehicles is such that any threat to safety could compromise all those that have to share the road with the trucks. Hopefully the issue can be taken care of before an incident occurs.
