Laceration Risk Leads Meyer to Recall 12,900 Pans Sold at Costco

Posted on November 28, 2012

A product that was only available throughout states in the Northeast as well as around the San Francisco Bay area is being recalled because a consumer might be injured if a certain defect presents itself.  Northern California shoppers please take note.

The Macau-based Meyer Marketing Company announced this particular recall, which pertains to six quart aluminum saute pans under the Kirkland Signature brand.  The items were only sold at Costco in the areas listed above, but that still equates to 12,900 pans measuring 12 inches in diameter that are affected by the recall.  Each cost about $35 and was available between May and October.

The recall was initiated not because of the pan itself but rather because of a hazard posed by the glass lid.  This tempered lid is in danger of breaking or even shattering, leading anyone using the pan at the time to potentially sustain a laceration injury.  97 people have reported some type of incident, although thankfully none of those circumstances led to any type of laceration.

Anyone who owns these pans should refrain from use at once and bring them back to the place of purchase to obtain a refund.  Costco is also attempting to get in touch with affected users directly.

If you’ve shopped at a San Francisco-area Costco and bought this item, or maybe if you received this as a gift, then please do what is necessary to ensure your family’s safety in the kitchen.
