Bill Seeks to Ban Cellphone Usage and Texting While Driving in Florida

Posted on November 30, 2012

Despite cellphone and texting bans being put in place in various states across the country, there are still some holdouts to these types of laws.  Florida is one such holdout, but that could change if Senate Bill 74 is passed.  A senator has just filed that bill, which would target both talking on a cellphone and texting behind the wheel.  This bill goes further than a similarly filed measure that only seeks to make texting illegal.  AAA has voiced its support for the measure, which would make it so any breach of the ban is a secondary offense, meaning the driver will have to violate some other law before they can be pulled over and ticketed.  A citation would cost the driver $30.
