Mountain View Contemplates the Institution of Bicycle Safety Measures

Posted on November 30, 2012

Mountain View is the latest community in California to grow increasingly passionate about the need for measures that would improve bicycle and pedestrian safety.  At a recent city council meeting, a principal from a local school expressed her disappointment with the fact that three kids at the school had been hit on nearby Castro Street.  This street and others might soon benefit from the installation of bike lanes and the narrowing of the current four lanes down to two.  Speed limit reduction is also being considered, with one bike safety advocate demonstrating how fatality rates increase dramatically the faster a vehicle is traveling.  With more students traveling to school via bike or on foot every year, the council hopes to do something as soon as possible.
