NHTSA Deputy Director to Ensure Safety of Google Self-Driving Cars

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s deputy director, an individual who also spent a large portion of his career at the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is leaving the NHTSA to go work for Google.  Because of his experience conducting vehicle safety investigations and developing safety standards for automobiles, he would seem ideally placed for his new position, which will find him heading up a department responsible for ensuring that autonomous automobiles are safe enough for the road.  Three states have already put forth laws that pave the way for such vehicles, and this latest move seems to show that Google is serious about rolling out the technology to customers.
