Fire Threat Prompts Thor to Recall Numerous Motorhome Models

Posted on November 6, 2012

A variety of motorhomes are being recalled because of the threat of a fire that could plague these vehicles.

Those motorhomes included within the recall are Dutchmen, Mandalay, Magellan, Windsport, Chateau, Hurricane, Presidio, and Fun Movers of the 2008 through 2010 model years, and the recall was initiated by Thor Motor Coach.  Each vehicle was built between June 1, 2007 and May 1, 2009 and is of the Four Winds brand.  The 634 motorhomes affected by the recall also contain an IOTA-ITS 50R Transfer Switch.

It’s this switch that poses the hazard which necessitated the recall in the first place.  The switches have a wiring connection that might not be up to the task, which could in turn lead the component to experience excessive heat.  This could lead to a failure of the switch itself and an ensuing fire threat that would compromise persons onboard.

At this moment, there is no word on when the recall is going to take place.  Once it does, though, owners can expect to receive word of the issue from Thor directly.  They will then be able to bring the motorhomes in for a no-cost replacement of the affected transfer switch by Thor.  Anyone with further questions is being directed to call the manufacturer.

The size of motorhomes is such that any recalls are particularly important.  It’s imperative that consumers acknowledge this recall and do what they can to preserve their own safety and the safety of others.
