A recent tragedy in Phoenix, Arizona has cast a spotlight on bicycle and pedestrian safety in the area.  The Street Transportation Department figures that 10 cyclists die every single year in the city but that an additional 490 are involved in some sort of collision with a motor vehicle.  The site of a recent incident in a which a child cyclist was killed has in particular been plagued by numerous accidents in the past half a decade.  Arizona is high up on the list of states with the most bike fatalities, which is troubling considering its population is substantially less than states with similar numbers.  Bike safety advocates say motorists must grow more accustomed to such conveyances, and officials are attempting to improve infrastructure.
