The Pelham Civic Center in Pelham, Alabama was recently the site of a Children’s of Alabama-hosted event known as the Crash Course Teen Driving Summit. 60 teenagers were able to take part in the event, now in its fourth year, and got to see firsthand the effects of distracted driving by submitting to a simulator. While attempting to text, teenagers piloted the simulator as if it were a real car and were able to see how a lack of focus can lead to an accident. Other students were around to talk about their experience losing a friend to a motor vehicle accident. Event coordinators also had games on hand that could further emphasize safe driving skills.
