A wide-ranging recall has been announced for an item that could be found in thousands of homes across the country.
JELD-WEN, a company based out of Klamath Falls, Oregon, announced the recall, which concerns interior bifold doors of the JELD-WEN and Reliabilt brands. These sliding doors work by way of a lower pivot pin and an upper track. Only those doors that contain a pin which has 12 indentations in a rectangular shape are contained within the scope of the recall. It’s expected that around 170,800 doors could thus be a part of the recall.
The recall was necessitated because the pin discussed above is in danger of breaking. If this were to occur, the door could lose contact with the upper track that it slides on. This could potentially endanger anyone in the vicinity due to the ensuing impact hazard. 12 reports have been filed in which the door reportedly suffered from this defect. Three of those led a person to sustain a minor injury.
These items were sold from February of last year through March of this year. They could be found at such places as Lowe’s, Home Depot, and similar stores. While they were on sale, they cost between $40 and $80.
Anyone who has one of these doors in their possession is being told to cease usage at once. JELD-WEN can be contacted, at which point they will help customers to figure out if they have a defective door. If it’s determined that they do, the company will provide replacement components and assist the individual with installation of the new items.
