Fire Hazard Risk Prompts Recall of 80,000 Sharper Image Wall Chargers

Posted on October 12, 2012

The threat of a fire hazard has prompted the recall of an item meant to recharge electronic devices of all sorts.

The item in question is a USB Wall Charger under the Sharper Image brand, and the recall was announced by Atomi, a company based out of New York City.  TSI202 and TSI260 are the two affected model numbers, and these numbers can be found on the bottom part of the black plastic item.

80,000 wall chargers are in danger of overheating and emanating smoke.  If this happens, a fire hazard is posed and any consumer who touches the item could sustain a burn.  No one has been injured in conjunction with this safety defect thus far, but there have been 13 reports of the overheating taking place, and his malady is often accompanied by an acrid odor.

These devices were available for sale online and at TJ Maxx, Tuesday Morning, and the Burlington Coat Factory between October of last year and September of this year.  They ran consumers anywhere from $8 to $13 at that time.  A refund will be issued to any consumers who get in contact with Atomi, and in the meantime, anyone in possession of the item is being told not to use the device.
