A new article provides the unique perspective of an Aurora, Illinois police commander who has seen firsthand the tragic effects of attempting to text while driving. She once came upon a scene where a woman was driving home to her son’s birthday party only to be killed in an accident that looks to have taken place while she was in the midst of sending a text. As someone invited to speak to others about the dangers of texting and driving, the officer decided that simple statistics aren’t enough to impact the behavior of an audience. Instead, she stresses the need to hit people on an emotional level.
