The threat of a Salmonella contamination has reared its head once again, only this time, it took an outbreak affecting at least 29 people across 18 states before the safety measure manifested.
Trader Joe’s announced the recall, which concerns Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter only available in their stores. The item has been taken off of store shelves, and consumers who might have the product in their possession are being asked to get rid of it at once. If they prefer, they can also bring the peanut butter in to a Trader Joe’s to receive a refund from the grocer.
The Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration conducted an investigation into the Salmonella outbreak that necessitated the recall, and their inquiry led them to peg the aforementioned peanut butter as the likely cause of the widespread illness. Trader Joe’s recalled the item after the two safety organizations spoke with company officials.
The threat of Salmonella should not be underestimated by consumers. Even though healthy people should be alright after experiencing nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and other symptoms consistent with food poisoning, certain demographics, such as kids and the elderly, could incur a potentially life-threatening infection.
North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts are among those states whose citizens have reported becoming ill.
