Evanston Police Cite 500 People During Pedestrian Safety Operation

Posted on September 10, 2012

In Evanston, Illinois, the City Council recently gave permission to officials to carry out an initiative designed to increase pedestrian safety.  Police are now touting the success of that effort.  In just three weeks, 500 people were cited for a litany of violations, from speeding to license violations to a failure to wear a seatbelt.  The bulk of the citations, though, were doled out to drivers using their cellphones.  217 people were cited for texting or chatting on their phones.
