Evanston Officials Educate Residents on the Safest School Routes

Posted on September 5, 2012

School started yesterday in Evanston, Illinois, and police officials were on hand near school zones in a bid to encourage safety.  Engineers and school district officials partnered to figure out what could be considered the safest routes to schools, deduced by looking at traffic patterns in the area.  Stickers reminding children of these routes were given to incoming students, and parents are being encouraged to explore these routes with their kids.  The increased attention to pedestrian safety is the result of a young girl being hit by a car toward the end of the last school year.
