Safety of Detergent Pods Called Into Question by Doctors

Posted on September 7, 2012

In the Archives of Disease in Childhood, a group of doctors has come out against detergent pods because of five reports of serious illness that occurred when a child consumed the item.  These pods are apparently being confused by children who think they might be candy.  The doctors stated that they put in a request to detergent companies to create new safety precautions on such pods.  The danger looks to be increasing with the growth of this particular item;  just under 3,000 exposure incidents were reported to poison control hotlines in 2012.
