Illinois Official Warns Drivers About Distracted Driving Danger

The Director of Safety Programs at the Illinois Department of Transportation says that although texting behind the wheel has been against the law for two years running, it is still a threat to safety that shows no signs of abating.  He also stated that they are using a campaign to inform people of the danger.  If an individual gets into an accident, he wants people to know that the police can check records to see if texting took place, and offenders might get a ticket.
