School Route Safety Encouraged by Police in Columbus, Nebraska

Posted on August 20, 2012

With the school season finally here, the police department of Columbus, Nebraska is warning automobile operators to use caution when approaching schools.  In particular, they want motorists to be aware of proper driving procedures when approaching a stopped school bus.  When a stop sign is extended and lights are flashing, a vehicle is required to come to a complete stop and not start up again until the bus moves.  Pedestrians should be given the right of way, and for their part, people on foot are encouraged to always obey posted signage and utilize crosswalks.
