Recently, a college student from the state of Texas was driving home from college when he plunged off the road and down a 35 foot ravine. The most ironic part of the incident is the fact that the individual had been in the process of sending a text message that read “I need to quit texting because I could die in a car accident and then how would you feel…”
The good news is that the young man did not die in the accident, a fact that’s quite shocking when you consider the damage he sustained. His lung was punctured, his face was fractured, and his neck and numerous other bones were broken. He coded three times while in the hospital, and it didn’t look like he would pull through.
He did pull through, though. After doctors fixed the damage, the man had to learn how to walk again, and now that he’s back on his feet, he wants to use his experience to warn other people about the dangers associated with texting while driving. He believes that he was saved so that he could spread the word and get citizens to stop texting behind the wheel.
Although Texas does not have a texting ban in place, various communities within the state do. The young man says that texting is not worth the risk. He attended his grandmother’s funeral and thought that it could just as easily have been him in the casket.
