The city of Alton might soon join other areas in Hidalgo County, Texas in putting in place penalties on texting and driving. The City Commission has passed the first reading of a bill that would ban the act. It will take two more readings before it becomes law. If it does eventually pass, though, Alton would join cities like Alamo, Hidalgo, McAleen, and Sullivan City. These localities are among the other cities that have already banned texting.
