Purdue Using Student Patrol Members to Promote Pedestrian Safety

Posted on August 23, 2012

With school back in force, Purdue University will be using the student body as patrol members with the directive to help pedestrians cross intersections safely.  The captain of the university’s police department says that recent years have seen an increase in distracted walkers, which has in turn led people to dart out from between cars and basically just blithely walk into traffic.  The effort will last for two weeks, and although citations won’t be issued, the Chief hopes warnings will do the trick just fine.  Bicyclists are also being targeted.
