Drivers of new lightweight cars are far more likely to suffer death or serious injury in a crash than the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) predicts, according to the spokesman for the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland. He says this is primarily because ANCAP testing does not take into account the heavier weight of the other vehicle (bigger and heavier vehicles usually come out on top in collisions) and limits crash tests to front and side collisions.
