The safety of various bridges throughout the state of California has been called into question due to reports which seem to suggest that tests on concrete used during construction have been altered. Many bridges, including the Bay Bridge, are included. A team of engineers with Caltrans unearthed the information, but Caltrans itself has said that the report’s conclusions are faulty and do not accurately demonstrate a safety hazard. Next week, the Senate Transportation Committee is set to question Caltrans about the possible safety oversight. Should a defect be uncovered, it would cost the state millions in repair costs.
