Police in the city of Newton, Massachusetts have kicked off a week-long enforcement operation that aims to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety along the roads. The drivers of motor vehicles and the riders of bicycles will be cited for any violations discovered by officers. The operation comes on the heels of 20 accidents involving bicyclists in the city thus far this year. One resident is happy about the effort, but worries that behaviors can’t be changed without longterm enforcement initiatives.
