Two days ago, the Merced Police Department took part in a Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation in order to continue a trend of decreased crash rates that has taken place in the last few years in California. The effort saw officers patrolling those locales that motorcycle crashes have been known to take place in. They cast a special eye toward catching intoxicated drivers and spotting violations that could easily lead to a motorcycle crash. Half of the four vehicle fatalities in Merced were motorcyclist deaths.
