Yakima, Washington Cellphone Driving Ban Not Deterring Violators

Despite the fact that both texting while driving and talking on a handheld phone while driving have been illegal in Yakima, Washington for more than two years, people still do it.  In fact, the Captain of the Yakima Police Department says 2011 saw 600 citations handed out to offenders.  An offense runs a violator $124, and officers are exempt from the law, something which has seemingly riled commuters.
