Athena Cantaloupes Recalled by Burch Equipment for Listeria Risk

Posted on August 1, 2012

A recall has recently been issued by the North Carolina-based Burch Equipment on whole Athena cantaloupes.  580 cases, which were distributed throughout the Northeastern part of the country, are affected by the recall.  The recall was necessitated once a random sample turned up a contamination of the Listeria monocytogenes organism.  Customers should destroy the cantaloupes, which have a red sticker reading Burch Farms.  4319 is the PLU number.
