Various Onion Products Recalled by Gills Onions Over Listeria Fears

Posted on July 23, 2012

On July 18, a recall of diced celery and onion mix and diced and slivered red and yellow onions was announced by Gills Onions due to the possibility that the items are tainted by listeria. No other Gills product is affected nor was there any illness reported in conjunction with the recall. Listeria can lead children, the elderly, and people who have compromised immune systems to incur a possibly fatal infection. Some of the symptoms of an illness are headache, high fever, and diarrhea. The infection is also known to cause pregnant women to experience a miscarriage or stillbirth.  Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, Oregon, Utah, and California are the states that have been affected by this recall.
