Power Steering Defect Leads BMW to Recall Z4 and Active E

BMW of North America is issuing a recall on two models, the 1-Series Active E and the Z4, the former of model year 2011 and the latter of model year 2012. The defective component is the power steering assistance system. A sudden loss of steering assistance can occur due to changes in electrical current. This can result in the driver not having the ability to properly change direction, creating a risk of vehicle accident. Owners will be notified by BMW and dealers will fix the defect free of charge.
